The USI-CMHCS has forwarded a project proposal to HQ ARTRAC/Army HQ to establish an Indian Army Historical Research Cell under the aegis of the Centre. There is a need to Indigenise our historical narratives based on a reassessment of colonial era histories and to produce professional historical accounts to cater for the requirements of the Indian Army in the 21st century and beyond. This can only be met by creating an independent Indian Army Historical Research Cell with a consolidated Army Archive of historical records. Creation of Indian Army Digital Archives will assist in capturing and systemizing the vital historical data for research use. The establishment of IAHRC will enable the organization to use this data together with wider resources on military history for focused research and its publication for the present generation and for posterity.
