The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’
1. Post of Director General, USI is falling vacant wef 01 January 2026. Applications are invited from the candidates who fulfil the following requirements, as laid down by the USI Council:
(a) Maj Gen / Equivalent rank and above from Indian Armed Forces.
(b) PhD/NDC (equivalent).
(c) Should be a member of USI continuously for at least 03 years as of 01 January 2026 (year of appointment).
(d) Below 65 years of age as of 01 January 2025 (during year of selection).
(e) Established strategic thinker.
(f) Initial tenure for three years with proviso for extension for another three years at the discretion of Council.
(g) Should forward their detailed CV, including vision for USI.
2. 3. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interaction with the USI Council at the USI premises on a given date and time. The outstation candidates will make their own arrangements for travel and stay.
