The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

A scholar presentation under the Shri Abhay Tripathi Chair of Excellence was conducted at the United Service Institution of India (USI) on Friday, 26 December 2025.

The subject of the presentation was “Transforming Governance Using AI: A Strategic Framework for Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”, reflecting the integration of advanced technologies with inclusive, transparent, and trust-based governance models. The programme commenced with welcome remarks delivered by Maj Gen RS Yadav, VSM (Retd), Director CS3, USI. In his opening address, he highlighted the growing relevance of artificial intelligence in governance, national security, and institutional decision-making. He emphasised USI’s role as a premier think tank in encouraging informed discourse on emerging technologies and their strategic implications for the state. The scholars’ presentation was delivered by Maj Gen (Dr) Ajeet Bajpai (Retd), Lt Gen Kapil Agarwal, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), and Mr Basu Chandola, Associate Fellow. The presentation outlined a structured and strategic framework for leveraging AI in governance processes, focusing on efficiency, accountability, citizen-centric service delivery, and trust-building mechanisms. The speakers elaborated on how AI-driven solutions could support data-informed policymaking, improve administrative responsiveness, and strengthen institutional credibility while remaining aligned with democratic values and ethical considerations.

During the interactive session participants engaged with the researchers on implementation challenges, governance safeguards, and the need for capacity-building within institutions. The event concluded with closing remarks by Maj Gen RS Yadav, VSM (Retd), Director CS3, USI, who summarised the key takeaways and reaffirmed USI’s commitment to promoting rigorous research and dialogue on disruptive and emerging technologies.
