USI CENTRE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES AND SIMULATION
FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 2008-2010
 

 

1. The USI-CS3 would like to invite applications for the Fellowship Programme commencing wef 01 July 2008. The duration of the Fellowship Programme will be for two years. Applications are required for two categories ie for Senior Fellows and Research Fellows, as per guide lines given at Appendix B.

2. In addition applications are also invited for Chairs of Excellence at the USI, from reputed scholars, members of the USI, academia, senior civil service officers and ex-Servicemen. The guidelines for submission of award of chairs will be the same as outlined at Appendix B. The 'Rules for Award of Fellowship Grants and Conduct of Research’ for the Chairs of Excellence are given at Appendix C. The last date for submission of proposals for these Chairs is 01 April 2008 which will commence on 01 July of the same year. The period of research will be two years.

3. Candidates are free to select any of the subjects from the list of topics at Appendix A. However, in order to build specific expertise in important areas of security concerns, preference will be given to studies in the following areas:-
 

(a)   Countering Pakistan’s Asymmetric Warfare Strategy.
(b) Transformation and Restructuring of the Army to Deal with Futuristic Challenges Across the Spectrum of Conflict.
(c) Military Leadership Challenges in the 21st Century.
(d) Modelling an ‘Across-the-Board’ National Power Model for India.
(e) Air and Space Power – The Military Implications of Space Assets and Policy Implications for India.
(f) Points of Convergence and Divergence of Conventional and Nuclear Doctrines.
(g) Critical Military Technology – Comparative Study of India, China and Pakistan.
(h) Military Dimension of Coercive Diplomacy – Case Studies and Lessons Garnered.
(j) Transformation of Para Military Forces/Central Police Organisations for combating sub conventional threat.

Guidelines for Submission of Research Proposals.

4. The broad guidelines for submission of research proposals are included at Appendix B (as also on our web page). Kindly direct your staff to forward suitable research proposals together with recommendations for Senior Fellows and Research Fellows for the fellowship programme 2008-2010. Fellowships of lesser duration can also be considered in exceptional cases depending on the subject selected and its contemporary relevance. 

5. We would very much appreciate receiving the names and subjects for Fellowship Programme, together with recommendations, by 01 April 2008 at the latest.
