USI Management

The three Service Chiefs are Vice Patrons of the Institution. Management is vested in a Council composed of 24 members, ten ex-officio and 14 elected for a period of three years. The Executive Committee consists of a Chairman and at least seven members, all chosen from the Council, and is responsible for execution of the policy guidelines given by the Council. The Director is the Chief Executive of the Institution, and also the Member-Secretary of both the above bodies.

Lieutenant General PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief South Western Command and Colonel Commandant, Regiment of Artillery, is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into 2 Field Regiment (SP) Artillery on 16 December 1967. He retired from the Indian Army on 31 Aug 2008.

During a military career spanning 41 years he has seen active service in the Western, Northern and North Eastern theatres including the 1971 Indo-Pak War, and held several important command and staff appointments. A graduate of the Defence Staff College, Wellington and the National Defence College, New Delhi, his assignments include command of 101 Field Regiment (SP); a Mountain Brigade in active counter-insurgency operation in Nagaland / Manipur where he was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal; an Infantry Division (RAPID) during Operation Parakram and a Corps in the Western Theatre. After command of the Corps he was appointed Director General Operational Logistics at the Army Headquarters.

His academic qualifications include MSc and M Phil from the University of Madras and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. He has been a member of the Faculty at the Defence Service Staff College, Wellington; the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun; the School of Artillery, Devlali and the Computer Technology Wing of the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow. During Operation Vijay he was Deputy Director General, MI (Foreign Division) at the Army Headquarters and was instrumental in shaping the contours of military diplomacy. He is a member of the India International Centre, New Delhi.

He was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal when he was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the newly raised South Western Command at Jaipur. He assumed charge as the Director of the United Service Institution of India, New Delhi on 1st Jan 2009.
